Take a Leap

There is a perception that the annual Careers Fairs aren’t for everyone. They’re great if you’re looking for a graduate program and if you are studying business or engineering you are spoilt for choice when it comes to meeting employers, but if you don’t fall into these categories you may not feel like getting involved is worth it. But consider this… Thousands of people in one location, all happy to have a chat, means that there are countless opportunities you could miss out on.

You know those conversations that give you a whole new perspective, that stick in your mind and are actually… potentially… maybe… life-changing… Huge call. But, meeting someone that is living the career you hope for or who happens to be the brother of the woman’s husband who owns that firm you want to work at… They’re the situations that can turn into those conversations.

Regardless of what stage of study or career you’re at, now is the perfect time to grow your professional networks. If you haven’t already, you’re sure to notice soon that Perth is small and very interconnected. Meeting new people is one of the most valuable things you can do for your career – and if this makes you nervous, the Careers Fair is a great place to practise.

Use the Careers Fair as a chance to observe and learn about local organisations and industries – understand the market you’re in, meet some great people and get some excellent advice. When it comes to career or job applications, a lot of advice is universal and a fresh perspective can help so don’t get locked into boundaries that seem to be dictated by your field.

The Careers Fair is your launching pad, hop down and start exploring. Good things come to those who wait, but the best things come to those who do

RSVP via Facebook for your chance to win a $100 Myer voucher!
