Are you passionate about helping the community and looking for a way to become more involved? Or perhaps you’re interested in furthering your professional and leadership skills? If so, we may have just the opportunity for you.
Curtin Volunteers! is on the lookout for team leaders for semester one 2019.
Every semester Curtin Volunteers! (CV!) recruit a number of Curtin students to act as volunteers and team leaders in order to connect with the community through programs and projects in a number of areas. Volunteering activities generally include helping primary school students with their literacy, teaching English to new migrants, assisting remote communities, and helping with community development.
Currently, the CV! team is on the hunt for semester one 2019’s team leaders. There are around fourteen positions available next semester for ambitious students to become a Program Leader, Project Leader, or Communications Officer.
All of the programs and projects require varying levels of commitment throughout semester, however, most will require a commitment of between five and ten hours a week.
They are looking for students with strong time management, leadership, and problem-solving skills, who will be given the opportunity to further develop these skills – all of which are extremely sought after and valuable in any field. It’s also an opportunity for students to fine tune their communication and networking skills outside of university life and gain some real-life experience.
Initiative is key.
There will be around twenty-one ongoing programs throughout the semester, and over twenty-five one-day or weekend projects for Team Leaders to be a part of – this will include projects such as the Red Carpet Cinemas, Freeway Bike Hike, and Camp Kulin.
Joining the CV! Team will allow you to gain professional and real-life experience, while helping you develop strong leadership skills. It’s a great way to broaden your horizons – and gain an understanding of what it’s like to work in a completely new field.
It’s also an effective way to further your personal development – while helping the community at the same time. And whether you’re an engineering, nursing or business student – this is an opportunity for everyone.
“It’s all about attitude,” said the manager of Curtin Community Programs, Marc Phillips. “Students who are committed, show initiative, and have the communication skills will do well”.
In some cases having the opportunity to volunteer in the community and gain new skills has even helped students to figure out where their passions lie, and what their future career pathway should be.
Curtin Volunteers! can also help you to connect with other students and community members outside of your field of study – and help you make new friends with others who are also passionate about helping the community and giving back.
However, if you’re interested in learning more about Curtin Volunteers! but don’t feel quite comfortable with the responsibilities of being a team leader – you’re in luck! There are a number of other volunteering opportunities with CV! available for 2019.
Applications to become a leadership volunteer for semester one 2019 close on the 25th of November 2018.
