Extra! Extra!

Curtin Extra, that is! Like to meet new people? Keen to build your employability skills and add value to your resume? Hoping to have an edge over other applicants for graduate roles? Want to display a cool badge on your LinkedIn profile? Well look no further! Read on to find out why you should consider becoming involved in the Curtin Extra program!

Curtin Extra provides official recognition for students who have made significant contributions to co-curricular programs by awarding digital badges and the Curtin Extra Certificate upon graduation. There’s something for everyone, whether it’s becoming a Curtin Guild Committee Member, signing up for Curtin Volunteers!, or joining the Curtin Motorsport Team, you can qualify for a Curtin Extra badge. In fact, there are over 90 different programs for you to pick from. You can search programs according to your faculty, or even opt for a fully online endeavour. You’re spoiled for choice!

Curtin Extra Coordinator, Paulene Tavani, suggests joining a co-curricular program because it is an area of personal interest, relevant to your degree or a step towards your future career.

Students may also want to develop transferable skills to complement their academic achievements, expand their social and professional networks, and have a positive impact on their community. There really is something for everyone.

Becoming involved in a Curtin Extra approved program can help you to develop skills that are highly valued by employers and arm you with the tools to navigate your future with greater confidence. After all, your time at Curtin isn’t just about attending lectures and tutorials, it’s also about becoming involved in your campus, making the most of the opportunities on offer, and enriching your overall uni experience. Just twenty hours spent in any of the approved programs will earn you a badge. Just think of how many you could accumulate by the time you graduate!

Getting started is as simple as browsing the Curtin Extra programs available to you. Research the ones you’re interested in, then contact the program coordinator for details about joining and how to participate as part of Curtin Extra. The flexible nature of Curtin Extra and the variety of choice means you can find a program that will work around your uni schedule and other commitments. Well? What are you waiting for? Start earning those badges!

Don’t just take my word for it, check out what some Curtin Extra participants had to say about their experiences!
